Pierre Le Maire

Pierre Le Maire is an organic farmer from Borlez in the heart of the Hesbaye, where he runs a 75-hectare farm growing cereals and vegetables.
After 22 years of conventional farming, he decided to go organic in 2000. Treading carefully, he started out with 3.7 hectares in a pilot attempt. Satisfied with the results, Pierre slowly increased the amount of land farmed organically and by 2010 had switched totally to organic farming.
On his 75 hectares, Pierre currently grows spelt, barley, beans, carrots, onions, potatoes, parsnips and celeriac.
